EDINBURGH 1999
Well, it happened. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was plagiarised from A Tale of Two Cities by C Dickens. As I write this, the TV is on in the background showing one artiste who featured in PBHASC 1999, and numerous others have been in recent weeks.
Oh, what a jolly spiffing show it was, to be sure, to be sure. Featuring numerous comedians who have played it in previous years (including one Perrier nominee who modesty or coolness forbids me to mention) and numerous new friends and one enemy who accidentally slipped through the net. The full listing can be obtained by clicking here.
And what an excellent new venue it turned out to be. Thanks to the staff of the Three-Quarter Sports Bar for a jolly splendid time. And what nice audiences you were, mostly. The comedians were good, the compere was shite a lot of the time. Bollocks to the two men in suits who stood at the bar talking all the way through one of the best shows we had.
FREE COMEDY RULES. Sometimes, you got shows that were better than ones they were charging eight quid for at the Pleasance or the Guilded Balloon. And it was so popular that I even set up in competition to myself and put on more FREE COMEDY at the Fiscal and Firkin. Thanks to Rob and Maz there, and thanks to Randy Wilson who ran the shows for me.
Oh, and my one-man show PBH OF THE EARHOLE went along in its own way at the Soup Dragon,
and the reviewer for Three Weeks was kind enough to give it * * * * * five stars. I'd put a link to it
here, but it seems to have disappeared off the web. But another * * * * * came from Brit Comedy digest. I always said: some people like this stuff, some people don't;
thanks to those who liked it.
